when you’re in the refining fire, know that the Lord is too. He was in the fiery furnace, the wilderness, the valley, the desert, the lion’s den, the storm, the famine. His sovereignty did not stop those things or the pain, scariness, isolation, or lack of control brought on by them.
the furnace was hot, the wilderness wild, the valley and the dessert were lonely and quiet, and the den was filled with roaring beasts, the storm with terrifying waves and the famine without nourishment. but Jesus was there: holding hands, keeping lions at bay, calming the seas, and giving water to sustain. sustain not prevent or alleviate or medicate. He became the only way out, the only respite, the only water to fulfill the deepest need that is exposed only when all the other excess “needs” are stripped away.
He is here, which makes this holy ground. may I take off my sandals in reverence and awe that He would choose me to come away with Him here.
