Tuesdays: The Extraordinary Mundane

1. grin     I answered the phone yesterday today, not recognizing the number. Upon my hello, I heard a muffled reply. Several “who-is-this?’s” and “this-is-Bailey!’s” later, I got a clear answer. My best friend. In Uganda. Oh my soul, how insanely wonderful it was to hear from her. We’re counting down the days together, both until she touches American soil, and until we touch Virginia’s soil together. My heart is smiling.

2. tether ball     My friend and I arrived at track practice to coach the kids an hour and a half early (woops). Naturally, we asked Siri where the nearest Bahama Bucks was, and after a slight detour, we pulled into heaven on earth. Being the fun and summery place it is, Bahama Bucks had a tether ball in the parking lot. This resulted in a best four-out-of-seven game of ball-in-the-face, laugh-till-we-cry, sippin-on-goodness. This is the summer of little things.

3. mark cuban     As per a pre-college thirty day countdown, my dad took me out to lunch. Giving me some much appreciated encouragement, some sage words of wisdom, and awesome food, my dad reminded me just how much I’m going to miss him. Like a sucker-punch, it’s going to take a while to get my breath back as I get used to not having him around. Leaving best friends will do that to you.

4. eucharisteo     I’m reading Ann Voskamp’s book, 1000 Gifts, and her blog, A Holy Experience, on the daily. Life. Changing. I’ve learned more from the truth-soaked wisdom of this one Jesus follower than I ever did from, say, *gasp* math or science class. She challenges that deep down part of your soul that rarely gets worked–like your triceps or upper abs–she makes it burn and pulse and causes that good sore afterwords. Like you just ran a hard work out. I love this. She is my ultimate inspiration.
