Tuesdays: The Extraordinary Mundane

1. the best class ever     Not only the end of the school year, but the end of high school is approaching quickly. This means the end of caring about school is approaching even faster. However, I have found an excellent reason to drag myself out of bed and into second period. On a whim because I needed another credit, I chose to take a creative writing elective for one of my last high school classes. It’s only the fifth day and it has turned out to be the best class ever. The work required for the course is exactly what I would do in my free time anyway. The assignments only fuel my desire to write and my love for the unspoken word. It is also the perfect opportunity to write explicitly about God’s radical grace in school assignments– a rarity I pray I don’t waste.

2. teammates     Oh my soul  I am going to miss this track team. We have grown closer than ever this year, and it’s only going to make it harder than ever to leave them in a few weeks. A few weeks. The girls on this team have seen my worst, least encouraging self, yet love me the same. We have stood by each other’s sides, pushed each other to the next level, and cheered each other on at every meet. God has done some serious heart-work in and through me on this team, and I will never forget it.

3. singalong 3     After attending a recording concert a few months ago, I came across the first videos of it on YouTube, and although they are low-quality, they evoke so many of the emotions I felt at the concert. Songs like the Doxology, Before the Throne of God Above, This is Amazing Grace, Carry My Soul, and so many more–all acoustic– have richer, fresher meaning now that I’ve sung them with three thousand other worshipers to the leadership of the artists who wrote the lyrics. The original intent and emotion behind their words were tangible in a way that lead worship in a unique way.

4. letter assignment     Unlike anything  had ever heard of, the writing prompt I received at school today left me skeptical. However, as I brainstormed, I found a meaningful way to incorporate the story of a little girl I met in Guatemala last summer. I am looking forward to posting the assignment here soon because it is over my favorite thing to talk about, and I hope my heart bleeds through as ink.
