Tuesdays: The Extraordinary Mundane

1. notes     Whether it be of encouragement, affirmation, or just “I love you”, little notes left behind by someone–for some reason–always mean a lot to me. Luckily, or by design, my closest family and friends know this and are the best at writing sweet words that mean a whole lot.

2. one year chronological Bible      Looking past the fact that I’m about five days behind, I really love reading Scripture this way because of how different my mind approaches it. Reading it chronologically is like reading from a history book–not in the ew-how-boring-it’s-history way–in that the real life events that happened are written in the order they happened. This has made such an impact on how I understand specifically the Old Testament, and how I see the connections and themes threaded throughout the whole Bible.

3. signature of Divine     I definitely stole this phrase from NEEDTOBREATHE…but it is a ridiculously accurate representation of this recent revelation I’ve had. God’s signature is everywhere in my life. And lately He’s been signing in a thick, heavy, and bold script–dark, neat, and inky letters penned right after certain events, thoughts, and prayers. It is unmistakable, burned in my mind and heart. What’s more is now I find myself expecting Him to show up and move in these great big and almost inconspicuous ways. And what I’ve discovered? He really is woven into everything.

4. perspective     Sometimes it’s like I’m looking through a spyglass: all my attention and emotion is pinpointed on one all-important, life-altering, I’m-never-getting-through-this, thing. But there are those moments when one word totally shifts my mind and heart to an eternal perspective. My lens expands to encompass not only the context of the problem, but the context of life. Perspective change like this is the all-important, life-altering, Jesus-will-carry-me-through-this thing. These heart-shifts have become daily and sometimes hourly necessities as I recognize that because my story has already been written, I get the thrill and joy to just live it out.
