Tuesdays: The Extraordinary Mundane

(To see the intro to this series click here)

1. silent drives     Every single morning drive to school, I make it a point to utilize that time alone for silence–away from the noise of songs, news, texts, and reading. On mornings when God paints a sunrise, I feel especially blessed to listen to the silence of His romance.

2. side conversations with acquaintances     In class, amid the cacophony of other students, having a one-on-one intentional conversation with someone I do not usually talk with felt refreshing, like stretching a neglected set of muscles. Chatting with my close friends always yields rewards, but purposefully seeking to connect with acquaintances builds relationships.

3. chai     This month I have been religious with drinking hot tea in the afternoons. In part because of rainy, frigid weather, and also because I feel immeasurably cultured by drinking Indian tea. 🙂 Hot and steamy and spicy sips of this tea cultivate my desire to drink it in India someday.

4. my teammates     Teammates have played both relatively insignificant and heart-altering roles in my career as an athlete. Looking at my current team today in the locker room, I examined the part of my heart that holds it: immense pride, tough love (as in we’ve-been-through-rough-losses-and-terrific-wins-together-tough), and deep sorrow at leaving them in a few months. God knows my heart and His plan, so I know He’s given me them for a reason, and I’m so grateful.
